Who We Are

Group image of project partners

The work of ESHARA is of, by, and for new Americans, refugees, and people of color. Through our staff and partners, we emphasize strong, collaborative relationships built through outreach, culturally-focused community events, connecting with employers, and working across systems to build sustainable change. We know the cultures, speak the languages, and have shared lived experience of fleeing our home countries to build a new home.

Meet Our Team

Ahmed Makaraan

Executive Director

Ahmed is a former refugee and seasoned community leader with over a decade of experience in nonprofit management, public administration, and emergency response. He leads ESHARA’s strategic vision, partnerships, and organizational growth.

Sahra Mohamed

Program Manager

Sahra oversees ESHARA’s community programs, including employment, housing, youth initiatives, and cultural events. She brings strong leadership in outreach, case coordination, and trauma-informed service delivery.

Nasro Ali

Care Coordinator

Nasro supports New American clients through employment assistance, housing support, childcare applications, and healthcare navigation. She is dedicated to providing culturally responsive, client-centered care.

ESHARA officially registered as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2021. Although, the ESHARA Partners and our collective work has been active since 2017. ESHARA started as a multicultural, cross-agency initiative helping new Americans achieve their full potential and secure living-wage employment. Now as a registered nonprofit, ESHARA is committed to building sustainability and collaboration to support all new Americans holistically.

Our goal is to be a bridge and one-stop solution that brings together ethnic and cultural leaders and nonprofit organizations to help new Americans; particularly in gaining employment and becoming empowered to take on leadership positions. We have three main service lines: Employment/Workforce Development Program, Essential Services and Youth Empowerment Program.
